giving in

Mike’s birthday was this week. To celebrate, we tossed around ideas that included crafting a semi-elaborate birthday dinner, which would have had to have been purchased, cooked and eaten in the few short hours we have between work and sleep. In the end, we decided to keep it simple. Instead, we went to Trina’s.

Trina's Starlight Lounge Cornbread

As we enjoyed a block of  corn bread, topped with an ice cream scoop of butter that sits proudly before it melts and weaves down the nooks and crannies that make up this delicious dish, I was reminded of a post by one of my favorite bloggers, kyla roma. Kyla recently blogged about comfort food of all kinds.

I loved the post because to me, it stood for simplicity. Too often I take on too much. I set lofty goals, tell myself I can conquer them all, and that it will be so great when I do, it’s just a matter of getting there. As time passes I only realize that in the end, my plate is just too damn full.

Whether through a fellow blogger, or a dish that is better in more ways than there are ingredients, it’s always good to be reminded that sometimes, the best kind of comfort comes when you stop holding yourself accountable to all the rules and the goals – and you just give in.
