I like to fly. I like looking out the window, listening to my iPod, sitting still – even if I’m only doing it because I have no choice. Sometimes I need to have no choice to do it, but I know it’s good for me.
The first time I flew out of the country was when I studied abroad. I was alone and I left on New Year’s Eve. I sat next to a young girl from France, she was probably seven. For most of the ride we communicated without speaking the same language. She showed me her package of pretty lip gloss and we went over how to say each flavor multiple times in both French and English. We both learned something.
I think she was the daughter of one of the flight attendants, but it didn’t hit me until the end of the flight that she was actually sitting alone too. She was so smart, outgoing and independent that I just didn’t question it.
After a few hours we both fell asleep and when I woke up, we were both under the same blanket. Her mom or dad probably saw us chatting the whole flight and they were kind enough to include me. It turned out, neither of us was alone.

Such a sweet story. I used to LOVE to fly, too. Such great time to be alone with my books and my music and my thoughts. But these days, flying has become soooo awful and stressful and expensive. I’m beginning to think road trips are the way to go.
What a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing it-very heart warming!
Awww… so sweet! I am actually terrified of flying, but I do it, because I love to travel.
i love flying and may be the only one in my family. just saw this and thought of you, too – http://www.pauloctavious.com/jfksfo/
that’s awesome!
Flying is such a weird thing- people either love it or hate it. I’m a lover, myself.
What made you think of this memory, just curious? It’s such a sweet one!

That’s such a cute story
I’m still pretty afraid with planes. I have so many distractions with me if I fly. A slight turbulence can cause me to close my eyes and start praying or something.
i love flying and there is nothing more i love than flying in and out of ireland. (and that was the first time i flew too)
love the shot!
I love flying, too, for the same reason. And the story you shared? So cute. I love meeting fellow travelers and communicating with them, whether or not we actually speak the same language.
What a sweet story
That is such a sweet story! I absolutely hate flying so it boggles my mind when people love it!
