I am finalizing my Costa Rica trip in December and from what I hear there is going to be some pretty crazy wild life.
The last time I really saw some wildlife was at the San Diego Zoo last year. While the animals weren’t roaming free like they will be in Costa Rica, they were pretty entertaining- at one point, we almost got smashed by a gorilla.
It was rainy when we went to the zoo, which we thought would lessen our experience there, but it didn’t. In fact, I think I took more pictures in that zoo than I did during my entire time in San Diego. So, what better way to continue this post than with a string of animal photos – who doesn’t love those, right?
Among the many animals we saw was a hippopotamus…

Panda bears, which were adorable, especially the little babies hiding in the trees.

Pretty in pink flamingos…

A gorilla on a mission. Right before he sat down, he came charging at us – he stopped right before the glass – but it was horrifying. I couldn’t get a picture without the glass (thank goodness for it) causing a flash, but I had to include this to give you an idea of his size. That’s probably how tall I am standing up.

Camels, just chilling out…

And of course, the oh so flirtatious klipspringers. Up close, it looks like they are wearing eyeliner and mascara. They look so dainty, but they are poised and powerful. Apparently they can jump onto a projection the size of a silver dollar with all four feet.

I absolutely loved the San Diego Zoo. My only disappointment was that I heard they had tortoises from the Galapagos, but they weren’t out the day I went.
Have you ever been to the San Diego Zoo? What were your favorite animals?

After my trip to Costa Rica, three toed sloths became my favorite animal because we saw one up close and it was pretty much the cutest thing EVER! After the San Diego zoo, klipspringers became a close second. I LOVE those little guys!!!!
ahh, i need to go to the SD zoo! seriously, this has been my dream since i was little.
I had no idea klipspringers even existed, but I WANT THAT.
If you enjoyed the San Diego zoo, I recommend visiting the San Diego Wild Animal Park in Escondido on your next trip. It’s set up like a safari park with two “continents” — one representing Asia, the other Africa. I got to feed the giraffes there one time — Totally COOL!
awww..the klipsringers! i want to go back and do our makeup with them, giggle about boys, and go clubbing so they can teach us how to dime-stop.
ooohh pretty pink flamingos!! I don’t know if it’s your camera or not, but their color is quite bold and brighter than any other flamingo I’ve seen in person.
Wow, panda bear i live in ASIA yet I never even see one! I know they have one in a local zoo here yet I never go to the cage..Such a cute creature
You got some great shots!! Love the klipspringers soo much.
Cannot wait to hear about Costa Rica!
So sorry I’ve been away for awhile. Life’s been super busy! When I used to live in SD I visited the zoo several times. The pandas were my fave (besides the elephants of course). You are going to loooooove CR. Have you been practcing your spanish? If you need any suggestions on CR please don’t hesitate to ask away.
Love zoos, great pics! Did going when it is rainy mean that there were less crowds?
I didn’t have time to go to the zoo when I was in San Diego (I opted for SeaWorld instead) but if I had known about the Galapagos tortoises I might have changed my mind!
The panda looks so cute and lazy. Haha.
The wild life there is awesome! so many great monkeys…where in CR are you going? you should contact travel experta–i think she runs a travel company there- http://www.travelexperta.com/
