rugby, an olympic sport

If you haven’t heard, rugby sevens is officially an Olympic Sport. And as you probably know, I love rugby so this news makes me pretty happy.

A whole new world was opened for me when I joined the women’s team at SJU. Before college, I didn’t even know what a rugby ball looked liked.

I had been two seconds away from joining the track team my freshman year, but my heart pushed me to enter the unknown and it was one of the best decisions I ever made in college. I met friends I will know forever and had an experience that I will continue to cherish for the rest of my life.

When I went to Ireland, it was a no brainer that I would join UCC’s women’s team. Here, Lisa and I met our good friend Ali Donnelly, founder of ScrumQueens, an amazing women’s rugby website for the international community that just launched. ScrumQueens is also on Facebook and Twitter.

This is my “I knew her when…” photo, enjoying some beers in our hostel after a tourney up in Galway.

As popular a sport it is internationally, rugby has always been under the radar in the U.S. Hopefully, an Olympic debut will bring it up a level. In 2016, I will definitely be watching and rooting for USA Sevens.
