our travels…

It seems like only yesterday I cornered Mike into taking me out on a date to see The Blair Witch Project after spending a whole summer really starting to like him. He picked me up, we awkwardly sat through a horrible movie and then he took me out for coffee at Dunkin Donuts before taking me home. A typical date for two kids in high school – at least back in my day.  Something clicked and we decided to continue to date, and continue to date and continue to date. Today we celebrate our ten year anniversary and I am the luckiest girl in the world. I thought about chronicling the years and even milestones, but realized there are far too many. Instead, I thought I’d walk you through something else. While we haven’t seen the whole world together, we have seen a lot of places and share a lot of memories…

Anniversaries in Gloucester

Gloucester

Every year, we celebrate our anniversary by taking a trip to Gloucester, MA. We love the rocky beaches, unpretentious restaurants, shops and of course, the whale watches. This year we are pushing it back a week because we called to reserve a hotel too late.

Family vacation in Martha’s Vineyard

marthas-vineyard

My family took a long awaited vacation to Martha’s Vineyard for a week back in 2002 and of couse, Mike joined. Our vacation included a deep sea fishing trip!

Philadelphia, our second home

philadelphia

We first experienced the pains of a long distance relationship when Mike went off to Temple University in Philadelphia for college in 2000 while I was still a senior in high school. The stars aligned the following year when I was accepted to Saint Joseph’s University, with scholarship money, the following year. We love Philadelphia and we take frequent trips to Philadelphia to visit friends.

Los Angeles

In the Spring of 2006, we took our very first vacation together when we had the opportunity to celebrate the marriage of my cousins Ryan and Lupe. After the wedding, we toured Los Angeles, looked at a lot of buildings and were also able to hang out with the now married, Kerry & Greg and Dave, another friend high school.

Santa Barbara

Our 2006 California trip included an excursion to Santa Barbara where we enjoyed the beautiful beaches, amazing food and of course, the wine.

Rome

Not new to enduring long distance, in 2004 we spent our Spring semesters of college studying abroad in different countries. Mike was in Rome and during my Spring break, I was able to visit.

Ireland

ireland

I studied abroad in Cork, Ireland for the Spring semester in 2004. On his Srping break, Mike visited. We toured the city, enjoyed lots of Murphy’s Irish Stout and took a tour of the Jameson Distillery.

Winter in Nantucket

nantucket

We took a weekend trip to Nantucket after I won a free stay at an Inn at an event. The catch was that we had to go during their off season – that was fine by us. Nantucket is beautiful in any season and we were able to explore as the island’s only tourists.

Costa Rica

costa-rica

Despite all the years we have been together, we have really only had one true “vacation” together – the kind where you take off multiple days from work and even get on a plane. We thought it necessary to fit in another and what better place than Costa Rica. We plan to take this trip at the end of the year!
