A few weeks ago I was contacted by the lovely Justine of Brand About Town, who bestowed upon me an opportunity to become a Brand Enthusiast for Nintendo. We met, we continued to email and the next thing I knew, I was about to host one of the funnest parties I’ve ever attended. The catch – my friends and I had to play Nintendo DSi all night long while being served cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in Boston’s oh so fancy State Room. My first and only task was to invite people to my party.
Then, two nights before my party I received a call from Justine letting me know that The Wall Street Journal was planning to attend! I suddenly found myself in a position that I strive to put clients in almost every day as a PR girl, and I was ecstatic. During the interview, after asking me what I blogged about, the reporter asked me a question whose answer I always thought was obvious: what does Nintendo have to do with travel?
Think about it – it’s portable and it offers just the kind of fun you need when enduring a long flight, road trip (if you’re not driving of course), a bus or a train ride. But that’s not all. When I met with Justine, she explained some of the games that she knew I would love, like ones that can help you learn a new language. Per our conversation, my next trip to Best Buy will be to purchase My Spanish Coach and I’ll be sure to report back.
Now, on to the party…

Even though I had read about the parties of other Enthusiasts like myself, and therefore expected to see that sign at the door, I was still overcome with shock and disbelief when I entered what was in fact, my party. The room was split up into four, very sleek and very modern, stations where each guest had the opportunity to try out a different game with the help of a professional Nintendo girlfriend.

I spent most of my time, champagne glass in tow, meandering around the stations and mingling with the wonderful clash of worlds that was my group of friends that night.

[The oh so hip, Liz of We Are Still Neighbors]
[My sis and friend Shannon of The Funny Simple Things being goofs]
The party ended with success, and a few complements
, and all the guests left buzzing about how addicted they have become to their brand new Nintendo DSi’s.
And for me, the night was surreal, magical even. In fact, I considered it to be an early birthday party because today, I turn one whole year older.
