This weekend Mike and I are heading to Narragansett, Rhode Island, where I will have the honor of being in the wedding of one of my best friends from high school. We’ve definitely grown up since then…
In 2005, after we both graduated from our respective colleges, I came back to Boston and my friend Kerry went to LA to get her masters in teaching. Here, she met her fiancee Greg, and has been there ever since.
Back in 2006, Mike and I were lucky enough to visit Kerry and meet Greg, who was just a boyfriend way back then. She lived in a former convent in Compton with a bunch of other teachers in the program.
While Kerry and Greg were at work, Mike and I gallivanted around the city checking out the major tourist attractions and of course, the buildings. At night we hung out with their friends, walked around Manhattan beach and we were even introduced to In-N-Out Burger, pretty much the best fast food chain there is.
On the weekend we went camping in San Onofre. Mike learned how to attempt to get on a surf board…
We lit a campfire, drank beer, played some music – and then got on a plane home first thing the next morning.
I hate not being able to have weekends like that with my close friends that live far away. You get used to it for a while, but then on the random occasions when you can actually see each other, it really hits home.
This weekend is going to be great because one of my best friends is getting married. It’s also going to be great because we will get to see them.
Oh how I miss random weekends to visit friends. The older we get the harder it gets. Makes me sad.

Sorry, but I’m still stuck on the In-N-Out. YUMMMMMM. (And yes, I have one just a couple miles from my house, and no, I never do actually go! But it looks good all the same!)
