My first meme..
As I mentioned the other day, Travel Experta and Lifecruiser Travel Blog are co-hosting the happiest hour of all with a blog post about a fun drink from somewhere in the world every first of the month. I have decided to join in on the fun…

I traveled to Brussels during my Spring break when studying abroad in college. In addition to the amazing Gothic architecture and delicious chocolates, one thing that stood out for me was the beer, naturally.
We stayed in a hostel whose common area converted into a chill bar at night and sold an unending list of euro beers – I don’t think I ever had two of the same. The atmosphere and the affordable prices made it so inviting to travelers that had spent the entire day exploring. Needless to say, there wasn’t much reason to leave when you were surrounded by good company and delicious beer.
As much as I tend to steer away from drinks that are on the sweeter side, the types of beer that were most memorable for me in Brussels were fruit-based. Brussels fruit beer comes in many flavors like cherry, raspberry and peach.
It is heavy but it is thirst quenching at the same time- not too sweet and more than satisfying. Brussels beer is not only plentiful and delicious, it is filled with history and tradition.
So, what’s the best drink you’ve ever had and where?
If you’d like to participate, here’s how to participate in Drinks ‘Round the World Meme.

My brother and I took part in a beer-tasting when we were in Brugge in 2007 and got to try some amazing beers! My favorite part of that trip? At one point before the tasting, the little old Belgian man who was in charge said, “For those of you who didn’t know, Belgium is a land of beer and chocolate.” My brother interrupted him, though, and said, “Excuse me, but I think you meant to say that Belgium is a magical land of beer and chocolate.”
awwwwww, thanks susan
alexa – cleveland’s a plums last blog post..yet another successful weekend (minus the cavs)
I love Belguim beer. I went to Belguim years ago and drank all the raspberry beer that they made:) After, I came back to the states and drank it here, but it’s like 3x more expensive!
I’m delighted to see you’re participating in our international party. Sounds absolutely mouthwatering!!!!! I haven’t tasted it, but I’ll make sure to keep my eyes open for it from now on for sure!
Generally Belgian beer is awesome!!!!!
Cheers ;-P
Fruit beer sounds rather tasty. I wish I’d tracked it down among all those trappist beers. My offering is a Pisco Sour from Chile (http://www.travel-wonders.com/2009/06/drinks-around-world-pisco-sour.html) for the world’s virtual cocktail party.
So proost or salut to you.

I’m a HUGE fan of fruit beer. Seriously. One of my favorite bars in BR has an ‘Around the World’ thing where you sign up and try to drink 60 beers from around the world (even though they have MORE than that) in six months. It’s so much fun!
