It all began with brunch at the Druid, one of Boston’s most authentic Irish pubs, in my opinion. Mike and I decided to try their Irish Breakfast, which includes sausage, ham, white and black pudding, eggs, potatoes, beans and a tomato.

In between episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and a nap, we finished up some leftover shepherd’s pie, a meal that my mom made quite frequently when I was younger and one that I have recently mastered, with the help of her instructions over the phone.
Later on we headed over to the Burren in Davis Square, another favorite Irish pub of mine, for some comedy put on by bad habit productions, which included a performance by the talented Three Hole Punch.
Finally, my night was capped off with a throwback. As I caught up with my favorite blogs in my reader, I learned from Erin of And Her Heart is in Ireland that Beamish, a stout made down the road from where I lived in Cork, is actually sold in the U.S.

I thought that was pretty cool.

sounds like a fun sunday! if i only liked irish breakfasts, but i don’t like any type of pork!
and it was the first time i’ve ever seen beamish in the US. i was shocked! if you are ever in ct, go to willimantic brewing company in willlimantic. i don’t know for how long they’ll have it, but i was sooo excited to have a pint!

Yum, I have food envy, except the fries, not a fry girl and can’t imagine for breakfast!

I’ve never had an irish breakfast. What’s white and black pudding?

though the anemic-looking food in the photo is from The Druid’s own website, it really doesn’t do justice to their offering — the potatoes were closer to home fries than the french fries pictured there. and it doesn’t even show the pudding! wikipedia has a good breakdown: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_breakfast

I’ve always wondered what black pudding was – yeesh! I don’t know if that would be up my alley or not, but Boston definitely has some good Irish pubs. You’ll have to show me around next time I’m in Boston!
