mobile travel gear

I can be impulsive. The other day when I got an email from Verizon saying I could upgrade my phone early, I searched for the closest store and got a BlackBerry Curve – I love it.

And yes, I got a pink one. This, by the way is really unlike me. You’re reading the blog of a former tomboy but like I said, I’m impulsive and I thought it looked nicer than the silver.

To be honest, for a long while I’ve been longing for an iPhone, but at the end of the day it wasn’t worth switching carriers and despite the elusive rumors that Verizon could be taking on the iPhone, I couldn’t wait any longer.

I have had it for a few days and it has already come in handy.

On Saturday night, Bryce and I went out to eat with Lisa and her family who was visiting from New Jersey. After wondering the address of Tommy Doyles in Kendall Square so that we could relay it to a cab driver, since it was a good place to grab a drink near their hotel, Lisa reminded me that I could find out the address quite easily, with my BlackBerry – and I did!

I have been scouring the new BlackBerry App World for free applications and so far BlackBerry Maps has been the most useful for me. The application allows you to find businesses, restaurants or whatever you need by entering addresses and viewing their locations on maps. It can also show you a visual route and step-by-step instructions to help you get to where you want to go.

I can’t promise that this will be my last BlackBerry post. BlackBerry App World has an entire category dedicated to travel, filled with applications that I am anxious to try.
