logging your miles on foot

Despite the wind, last weekend had the perfect weather to not use a car. In one day, I ran all of my errands on foot- grabbed a coffee from the bakery down the street (.2 miles), got a hair cut (1.2 miles), took a leisurely walk to Harvard Square (2.4 miles) and then I got sushi for dinner (another .6 miles).

That’s 4.4 miles! Not bad considering I left the house consumed with guilt that I skipped the gym that morning. On top of the exercise, I also discovered some new places that I plan to explore as the weather continues to get warmer. And, they are all within walking distance.

Back in March when our friends from Philadelphia/New York visited us, we discovered that our architectural tour took us on a journey of about eight miles in one day. And, during a recent trip to Montreal, my friends and I walked so much that my entire body was sore the next day. Our wandering also allowed us to discover locations that weren’t originally on our agenda, like a crepe shop with delicious gelato.

When left with just your feet and curiosity, I think it’s pretty cool how much ground one can cover in a day, by accident.
