The Boston Marathon, which first began back in 1897, kicked off today at 9:22 a.m.
The course begins in Hopkington, MA and ends 26.2 miles later in downtown Boston. Each year the race takes place on Patriots’ Day- a public holiday in Massachusetts the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War.
It runs though my hometown and is something I have looked forward to every year since I can remember. When I was younger my family and I would walk from our house to route 135 near the Natick/Wellesley line to cheer on the runners.
I have friends in the race this year and I wish them and everyone else the best of luck today!

i can’t believe its 103 years old. i wonder how old is NYC marathon then, i think it’s older???

It must be amazing to go to a race like the Boston Marathon and know a few people who are running in it. That’s truly a feat, and I hope your friends did well!
