When traveling for extended periods of time, ambitiously equipped with maps marked with places you wish to see, crossing off those places one at a time with a strong sense of accomplishment, you can accidentally turn enjoyment and exploration into a task – like when you are at work and you have a to do list. That’s not to say you shouldn’t visit the places you have come so far to see, it’s just that long days on foot whilst exploring can certainly wear you out. Therefore, it is important to stop taking things seriously for a moment and let yourself get a little goofy.
The past week has taken a lot out of me, so as I flipped through old photos for some blog inspiration, I came across a few memories that I guess are not entirely “appropriate,” but they definitely cracked me up.
So, here are my unofficial examples of ways to keep it light, when you’ve let tired feet and endless lists of “must see” locations get in the way of having fun…
Attached to Christ’s Church in Dublin is a Viking Museum that was loads of fun. My sister Jenny didn’t shy away from trying on some of the costumes.

In addition to costumes, the statues at the museum were so lifelike, and poor Lisa was taken by surprise.

Sometimes you come across statues that are randomly placed throughout the city you are exploring and you don’t necessarily have a background on the piece of art or the artist. But, you can always imitate the statues and take pictures, like I did in Brussels.

And in the center of Amsterdam, there are some fun little lizard statues that keep you company when you need to stop and have a break from walking around the city and dodging bicyclists. If you ever visit, you should stop by and say hello to these little guys.

Do you ever have fun with statues on your travels? Or should I say, how do you have fun while traveling?

I was awaiting Mannekin Pis and how you posed with him =)
Guess you’ll just have to pay him a visit next time you’re in Benelux!

I try really hard not to plan where I’m going to visit while on vacation – keeps things interesting and light. Though there are always those must-sees, which usually consists of a long photo shoot on my part.

My friends and I had a ridiculous time in Italy with the statues there. I have plenty of imitation and interacting photos with them. It’s just too much fun not to!
Hahaha, my senior prom was at Philadelphia’s Constitution Center, and there are all these statues of the founding fathers and such, and we posed with them. It was very silly

you know i never had fun with them before. but now that my son is older, he seems to have way too much fun and this trespasses onto us and now we’re starting to find many really cool and funny statues all over the place. of course, his idea of fun is looking at the peepees and titties. but still, we can divert his eyes to other fun stuff:)
