Mike emailed me this image from Boston.com because he knew I would be excited to see it. This story, in which Beth Daley reports there were more than 70 right whales feeding in Cape Cod Bay, makes me happy. I love whales.
Apparently, scientists have never seen so many North Atlantic right whales in the bay so early in the spring. Beth also reported that right whale populations never significantly bounced back once hunting eased, but this gathering could be a sign that things are beginning to turn around for the right whale.
Recently Mike and I have been talking about taking a trip to Nova Scotia, where I would definitely take advantage of a whale watch. Hopefully our plan comes to fruition…

what a great picture! i used to love whale watches when i was younger but haven’t been on one in forever. maybe this summer…i’ll add it to the to-do list.

How fun! I’ve never seen a whale in real life, and I would love to go on a whale watching adventure!
I’m a born-and-raised Cape Codder. Grew up watching these whales every summer with my family.
I hope you’re right that this is a sign that they’re coming back. Too many bad stories about whales as of late.

Oh wow. They’re so beautiful. ^___^
How pretty! We have a bunch off the coast of CA right now, too–so far, I’ve only seen their spouts from afar.
I just found your blog through we are not martha. Love the posts although it is insane to me to think of not liking croutons. Growing up they were always my sister’s favorite part of the salad.
