old school communication

Social media has changed they way we access and push out information – especially in regards to how fast this information can be acquired and distributed. If I need to know something, I Google it. Sometimes, I even Tweet it and I get a quicker answer.

Two things happened this week that jerked me back to the time before such instant gratification.

I have spent tons of time on the phone with Malaysia Airlines trying to figure out this alleged promotion to Stockholm. I think I am geting somewhere, but the entire transaction can only seemingly be done over the phone and not online. I used to feel more comfortable with more personal transactions, but for some reason I am longing for the cold face of an impersonal website.

Yesterday, I went to the Cambridge Public Library to find the next level of Pimsleur language learning CDs because I want to pick up learning Spanish where I left off before I went to Central America. Aside from picking up the last CDs I haven’t been to a library in so long. The CDs were not available and had to be ordered from another library – so I will be waiting for notification that they arrive – it could be weeks.

“The old fashion way,” when we had to be patient for such things, wasn’t long ago and it is amazing to me that access to information has changed so dramtically in such a short amount of time.

That is my bit for today – I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
