You may or may not remember, but on Saturday it was date night for me and Mike and on this night, we were truly faux-yuppies.
Pomodoro in the North End is the size of my living room. It has grey walls and a black ceiling, which you think would make it seem smaller but somehow- it works. It’s bathroom is not big enough to contain a sink, you have to walk back to the kitchen to wash your hands, but despite this weird quirk, the bathroom was sort of endearing- it had candles and was homey.
Sade played in the background and it made me feel sophisticated.
This…

…made me want to try and like dirty martini’s. Mike took the photo.
In addition to bread and that amazing spread, we were given fried calamari. I don’t know if it is because we had to wait ten minutes when we had a reservation (which wasn’t a big deal at all) or if it is standard. If it’s the former, I admire their customer service. If it’s the latter, I admire their customer service.
I had a regular pasta plate with clams – whole, fully belly clams. When I slaved at a fried seafood joint back in the day I thought it was gross when people ordered “whole” clams instead of “clam strips” because you could see those sick bellies filled with sand. But for some reason, with my chic, Italian dish, covered with a tasty red sauce, they were delicious.
You know when you get a bottle of wine at a restaurant and you know that if you bought it at a store it would be a third the price, but it’s okay, because what you buy at a restaurant doesn’t ever really comply with what you buy at a store?
We bought a bottle of Flaio Primitivo, a wine that the TTB considers to be synonymous with a Zinfandel. We spent $30.00 on that bottle and I used to buy the exact same bottle religiously from my friends at Leary’s in Natick for $10.00 – and Leary’s was on the pricier side, but I went anyway because they knew me.
That’s my gripe, but it’s neither here nor there because every restaurant does that- it just never really hit home like that for me before, you know?
Overall, I loved Pomodoro- just be sure to make a reservation if you ever intend to check it out.

That looks yummy. I need to get myself out to Boston just for the eats!
