It might be because Earth Day is approaching, but for some reason I have been catching a lot of eco-travel tips out there.

From hotels to transportation to travel agents, organizations are really making an effort to reduce their carbon footprints – us travelers definitely have a lot to choose from, but what does it all mean?

Erin offers easy tips for greener travel where she references Josh Dorfman, author of The Lazy Environmentalist: Your Guide to Easy, Stylish, Green Living, which provides tips for treading lightly—without having to give up those little luxuries that make you want to take a vacation in the first place.

She also offers advice for deciding where to go, resources for deciding where to go, among many others. And her advice on balancing your impact, was really interesting.

As the phrase “go green” increasingly becomes (dare I say it) overused, reducing your “carbon footprint” is certainly becoming a buzzword. Carbon offsetting is the idea that you can purchase an “offset” to compensate for the eco-impact of your auto or air travel. A number of companies now offer the service, usually providing mileage calculators on their Web sites to help you gauge your emissions, which I mentioned a while back.

I investegated a bit more to learn about how to really measure your carbon footprint and I found kind of a straightforward description on ABC New and a description of how you can buy one here on wikiHow.

Climate Care evidently is a pioneer of offsets (recently bought by JP Morgan) and I am interested to see how this market will grow.
